This workshop is a hands-on creative session where you’ll reimagine an iconic image—rooted in Canadian visual culture—through analog and digital collage. Using your own perspective and identity, you’ll transform the image into something uniquely your own.

Blending traditional and digital techniques, you’ll experiment with cutting, layering, drawing and image-making to create individual compositions. At the end of the session, everyone’s work will be combined into a single animated GIF—a collaborative portrait of the group created together in real time. Whether working digitally in Photoshop, creating by hand or combining both approaches, you’ll leave with a unique piece that reflects your individual voice and contributes to a shared collective artwork.

 

What to Bring:

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop with Photoshop and download the provided PSD file in advance. A laptop is recommended but not required—analog options will be available for those who prefer to work by hand. Participants are also encouraged to bring personal materials that inspire them, such as photos, magazine clippings, tickets or other meaningful objects.

  • Ways to use texture, imperfection and handmade elements to bring depth and personality into digital work
  • How collaborative creative processes can generate new ideas and expand your visual storytelling
  • Techniques for translating physical materials and gestures into digital environments
  • How to build confidence in using hands-on methods as a starting point for conceptual exploration
