This workshop strips typography back to first principles, giving participants only printable shapes, a grid and the challenge of constructing a complete set of letterforms using nothing but those primitives. Working by hand and by eye, participants discover through making what centuries of type designers discovered through craft: that the rules of optical consistency, stroke contrast and proportion aren’t arbitrary—they’re what happens when geometry tries to become legible. Join Thomas to get a visceral, hands-on understanding of why type looks the way it does, and a set of constructed letterforms participants can take further into a typeface, a logotype or a display system.
