Our world is becoming more complex every day, and whether we are designing for simple automation, like smart devices, or autonomous robotic explorers on the moons of Jupiter, we face the same problems: how do you design for all the future’s unknowns: societal, technological and cognitive? At NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, this is the design team’s driving challenge. JPL designers must constantly imagine what people 20 years from now will value, need and understand in the context of both earth operations and robotic systems. Join Krys as she shares two very different NASA design case studies and the techniques her team uses to understand and predict what the needs of future users might be as they craft a future in which humans and robots work together as partners.
