Explore blackletter letterforms through sketching in this fast-paced and easy-to-follow workshop.

We’ll explore simple techniques for constructing blackletter: setting up guides, finding consistent proportions and constructing letters from familiar shapes. You’ll practice key characters and short words while learning how to keep your letters steady, corners crisp and spacing balanced for a bold blackletter rhythm. This session emphasizes sketching and experimentation over perfection. You’ll leave with foundational exercises, a clearer sense of where our Latin alphabet comes from and the ability to draw your own letters!
