As multi-platform, multi-format, cross-functional designers working in a hyper-digital world, we have to constantly invent and reinvent who we are.
We have to think about how and why we do things. These seem to change every day, and it’s exhausting! Designing across formats and pursuing complex communication, knowledge-sharing and meaningful storytelling is getting more intensive as we dive deeper into digital. It’s similar to being a musician in the early 2000s, when the rise of digital platforms forced musicians to reinvent themselves and think about self-distribution on a large scale, community building and vast digital spaces to explore and get distracted by. It also came with a change in art form.
Taking lessons from indie bands circa 2008, this talk looks at how you can keep your edge and independence in a fast, complex and constantly imprinting and replicating digital world. Lauralee's session explores designing in a disruptive space that is constantly evolving, and explains how you can keep artistry, storytelling and meaningful communication at the forefront of your design practice.
