Creative Recess: A play lab for designers

Designers spend much of their time refining ideas, meeting deadlines and solving complex problems.

But the curiosity and imagination that first drew many creatives to their craft can easily get buried beneath the pressure to perform, produce and prove themselves. This workshop offers a playful pause during the conference: a playground where designers can step away from expectations and reconnect with the mindset that fuels original ideas. Through guided prompts, reflection and small-group exploration, participants rediscover the curiosity, experimentation and bold thinking that defined their early creative years, before perfectionism, comparison and professional pressure crowded the process. Join Lauren to explore creative play, imaginative thinking and the freedom that comes from loosening the need to have everything figured out before you begin. Rather than focusing on producing work, your experience centres on reconnecting with the spark that makes creative work feel exciting, meaningful and alive in the first place.

Designed as a lively and welcoming experience within the conference, Creative Recess invites designers at every stage of their careers to share ideas, explore possibilities and leave the event feeling energized, inspired and creatively reactivated.
