Joe Duffy A Brand Apart

Chair of Duffy & Partners, Joe Duffy is a much-admired creative director and an expert in branding and design. When he started Duffy Design in 1984, in association with ad agency Fallon Worldwide, he broke new ground for the collaborative integration of branding and design with advertising. His work includes brand and design development for leading global companies such as BMW, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Starbucks and Sony. He'll offer insights into effective branding programs and keys to collaborative, respectful client/designer relationships.
   
   

Peter Girardi

Peter Girardi is a pioneer in both web design and CD-ROM production. Among the CD-ROM titles he has designed are Body Voyage, Maus, Painters Painting, The Beat Experience and People. Peter co-founded Funny Garbage with John Carlin to design web sites for corporate clients like Bear Stearns and MasterCard, and artists such as Robert Wilson and Philip Glass. Funny Garbage recently completed a landmark project, Body Voyage, for Time Warner, which consists of a CD-ROM, book and web site.

Minda Gralnek is Vice President, Creative Director, at Target, a leader in trend merchandising and innovation. A key element of this leadership is Target's exclusive design partnerships. Minda leads a team that sets Target apart from other discount retailers by bringing in new and exciting designers that offer unique and unexpected merchandise–a goal that truly lives up to Target's brand promise "Expect More. Pay Less." Target's designer strategy includes partnerships with Isaac Mizrahi, Michael Graves, Mossimo, Liz Lange, Swell by Cynthia Rowley and Ilene Rosenzweig and Sonia Kashuk.
   
   
Chris HackerDesign Expressing Values, Gaining Share

Chris Hacker has recently joined Johnson & Johnson as Vice President Design and Design Strategy. He will be responsible for bringing strong brand identity and sustainable design practices to the company.
Chris was Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Design for Aveda until recently. In this role, he was responsible for everything from product development to brand positioning, visual merchandising to packaging, store design to advertising as well as Aveda's global and consumer marketing. Mr Hacker accepted on behalf of Aveda, the prestigious 2004 Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for corporate excellence.
   
   
Paul MatthaeusVisible Thoughts: Work and Process @ Digital Kitchen

Paul Matthaeus founded Digital Kitchen with a band of talented artists, filmmakers, musicians and animators. DK is an experimental branding think tank blending the best of a movie studio with the focus of a branding firm. The firm has done landmark ads for Audi, Microsoft, Sony, Nike and Toyota. In 2002 Time hailed its titles for Six Feet Under, “TV’s most gorgeous opening credits”. Later that year DK won the Emmy for Best Main Title Design and Production. Since then DK has been nominated for more Emmys than any other firm in the business.
   
   
Bruce Mau

Bruce Mau is the creative director and founder of Bruce Mau Design Inc. His award-winning, multi-disciplinary design firm is world-renowned for its expertise and innovation across a wide range of projects and collaborations with some of the world’s leading architects, artists, writers, curators, academics, entrepreneurs, businesses and institutions. From 1996 to 1999, Bruce was Associate Cullinan Professor at the Rice University School of Architecture, Houston. He has been thesis advisor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, and a visiting scholar at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles.
   
   
Dave NortonFind the Experiences that Matter

In our experience-based economy, companies that understand how to develop meaningful experiences will succeed. Designers are uniquely qualified to find and design such encounters for customers, but to do so they must first think differently about the purpose of design. From web sites to hotel cleaning carts to entire private islands, Dave Norton guides clients through the essentials of profitable brand experiences. He is VP of Research and Experience Strategy at Yamamoto Moss. His Design Management Institute seminars have taught countless participants how to become more strategic thinkers.
   
   

Andrew Stawicki
Life of Water

Andrew Stawicki is a founder of PhotoSensitive, a non-profit collective that explores how photography can contribute to social justice. Born in Poland, Andrew joined the staff of The Toronto Star in 1983. His work has appeared in the A Day In The Life Of... books on Canada, Japan, the U.S., Spain and the Soviet Union. Andrew presents THE LIFE OF WATER. Photojournalists, documentary, art and commercial photographers from across Canada interpreted and documented the life of water, for an exhibition, book and DVD. The project is also the feature subject of the 5th issue of award-winning Fiber magazine.

   
   

Massimo Vignelli

Massimo Vignelli studied architecture in Milan and Venice. In 1960 he and his wife Leila opened a professional office for architecture and design in Milan. In 1965 they moved to New York to work on identity programs for Ford, American Airlines and Knoll. In 1971 they founded Vignelli Associates designing everything from identities to books, signage to interiors, products to clothing. Clients included Bloomingdale’s, Xerox, Ducati Motor and Benetton. Their works are in the collections of the MOMA, the Metropolitan Museum and the Cooper-Hewitt. Massimo has taught and lectured on design across the US and internationally. For the past 10 years, he has taught at Harvard’s School of Design.
