Design Green: A Call to Action
October 28, 11:15-12:00
From products to buildings to communications, designers have a crucial effect on the environment. Designers can lead their clients to adopt more sustainable behaviours. In fact, with the significant progress made on the green technology front, behaviour change is now the number one challenge for the environmental movement. This is a Call to Action for communications designers everywhere. Are we doing enough? If not, why not? What are the barriers to change? What are the case studies to inspire us all? How can designers from various disciplines work together to establish a leadership role?
These themes will be explored in two back-to-back interactive sessions organized by Ontario’s Design Industry Advisory Committee (DIAC). We will lead off with brief presentations from a panel of prominent designers in architecture, interior, industrial and graphic design. The floor will then be open for discussion. This is an opportunity to engage in a cross-disciplinary discussion on one of the most crucial challenges facing the design sector in the 21st century.
The session is facilitated by Arlene Gould, Strategic Director for DIAC and Adjunct Professor at York U. The panel will include Janna Levitt, Levitt Goodman Architects; Sandra Lester, HOK; Bernard Hellen R.G.D., Traffic Design and Marketing and Jean-Pierre Lacroix R.G.D., Shikatani Lacroix Design. |
