The Literature of Inspiration
"If you can't find your inspiration by walking around the block one time, go around two blocks. But never three." – Robert Motherwell

A decade into both a marriage and a practice, Bill Drenttel and Jessica Helfand not only have each other, they have a library. Their presentation will explore books as a source of ongoing inspiration in their practice and in their lives.

Jessica Helfand and William Drenttel are partners in winterhouse, a design studio in northwest Connecticut. Recent clients include Nextbook, Poetry Foundation, New England Journal of Medicine, Yale Law School, NYU School of Journalism, University of Chicago Press, and the National Design Awards. Jessica is a thesis critic at Yale School of Art and the author of Screen: Essays on Design and Visual Culture (2001) and Reinventing the Wheel (2002) published by Princeton Architectural Press. She is a graduate of Yale University. William is president emeritus of The American Institute of Graphic Arts, a trustee of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, and a fellow of the New York Institute of the Humanities. He is a graduate of Princeton University.
