Ellen is founder and Principal of Shapiro
Design. She has taught at Parsons, Pratt and the
School of Visual Arts and is the author of The
Graphic Designer’s Guide to Clients and
Clients
and Designers. A contributing editor of PRINT,
she writes for Communication Arts, Step-by-Step
Graphics and the AIGA Journal. In “Clients:
why we need them, why they drive us crazy and how some
notable designers have found ways to work successfully
with them”, she looks at the ways designers have
devised to work with clients – to help you refine
how you find, get and keep your own clients. She will
also amuse with stories of designs accepted and rejected
by her own clients – including a logo rejected
by her son. "Listen to your mother," Ellen
said. "It’s a good logo. It will work for
you." He didn’t listen.
